Does a New Boiler Help Reduce Your Carbon Footprint?

We can no longer ignore the damage caused to our planet, and the devastating effect the energy crisis is having on the earth and its wildlife. Something needs to change, and while it can be difficult to know where to begin, it’s important for us all to take responsibility and play our part in helping our planet.

There are different ways to do this and it’s encouraging to see and hear that there are so many positive changes afoot. As people, we have the power to make a big difference and there are a great many things we can choose to do. From turning vegetarian or vegan to using the car less (or even switching to electric), there’s a whole host of options to reduce your carbon footprint and help to protect the earth.

For many of us, the bulk of the energy we use is in our own homes. Every time we run a bath, switch a light on or turn the heating up, we’re using energy, much of which produces harmful CO2 emissions into the environment. So how can we combat the daily damage energy-use is having on the world?

Reducing energy use in your home

Like with a lot of things, energy use is part habitual. We’re used to behaving a certain way, for example, leaving the heating on when we’re out or having a long shower uses excess energy that contribute to our carbon footprint and produces additional CO2 gases.

There are a couple of ways to tackle this, and doing a combination of these is what will have the most positive impact on the energy crisis.

The first is being mindful of the energy we use, and taking simple steps to address this. By getting Smart meters installed, you can clearly see your energy use and take better control. You can also start reducing your energy use straight away, by doing the following:

Turning your thermostat down a degree

Having shorter showers

Turning your heating off its timer if the weather is mild

Bigger changes will naturally have a bigger impact, so while the above will certainly help, altering your energy use in the longer-term should also be considered.

This can include:

Having solar panels installed

Upgrading your washing machine to an energy-efficient model

Upgrading your dishwasher to an energy-efficient model

Newer appliances are designed with energy-efficiency in mind, so they do the same job, using less power. This means you can enjoy the same benefits without wasting energy.

How a new boiler reduces your carbon footprint

In a similar way to your other appliances, a new A-rated boiler will be vastly more energy-efficient, working at up to 90% efficiency and recycling much of its power to use again.

The result of this is that you’ll use a lot less energy, even when you have your heating and hot water on for the same amount of time. New boilers are designed especially to reduce the amount of CO2 emissions produced, and they perform effectively in your home while using a lot less power.

If everyone in the UK switched to an A-rated condensing boiler and were more mindful with their energy use, around 6.7 million less tonnes of CO2 gases would be produced. This estimate is made by The Energy Saving Trust, and shows the difference we can make if we all take steps to reduce our own carbon footprint.
